Associate Spotlight: Sylvia Anders

By Ann Fouse, Account Manager, Schaumburg, IL

I’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Anders, one of the Technical Team Leaders in Schaumburg, IL. Sylvia leads a group of RSGers who work on Oracle® reports, client migrations and custom Sigma EncoreSM panels for the Schaumburg clients. Sylvia has been a programmer for about 19 years, 10 of those years with RSG. The path she followed to RSG has been interesting, to say the least.

Sylvia Anders
Sylvia’s first job was with Frankly Yours Hot Dogs, and it influenced her away from food service forever. Her college years were spent at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, obtaining her B.S. degree in Business Administration and Computer Information Processing. Arts and creativity are important to Sylvia, but not in the typical mode. She considers designing and developing a system like painting a picture but without the brush. Instead, she uses ‘if’ and ‘then’ statements. She strives to streamline or automate processes so that her clients using Sigma EncoreSM find it more efficient.

Sylvia’s first professional job was with Allstate Insurance Company as a Cobol and Nomad programmer. From there, other programming jobs included working with Bradford Exchange, Motorola and Aonics.

Sylvia and her daughter, Shae, are very active campers and hikers. Her family includes three dogs (two Shepadoodles and a Jack Russell) and one cat. As with most parents, she looks for ways to spend more time with her daughter, so she and Shae became active in Indian Maidens. Sylvia is also very active in Toastmasters, an organization that helps people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience; it’s also a way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills. In 2007, Sylvia received her Competent Communicators certification from Toastmasters, which required giving 10 different types of speeches or presentations (such as informative, persuasive, instructive and motivational) in front of an audience. Sylvia is also an accomplished alto vocal soloist, providing classical accompaniment at weddings, funerals and in choral competitions.
