In "Big Yellow Taxi," Joni Mitchell sings, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." We all take for granted something in life ... our health, our safety, our job. RSG was recently reminded of this lesson.

One of our longtime clients, satisfied with RSG and Sigma EncoreSM, went out to bid as part of their procurement process. This is not unusual these days, with Sarbanes-Oxley and enterprise risk policies requiring more frequent evaluation of established vendor contracts and relationships. However, we missed the deadline to submit our proposal, and pleading with procurement for an extension was unsuccessful. All of the major RMIS vendors were bidding for this company's business. Our client, whom we worked hard to retain all these years, looked to be transferred to another vendor by year-end.

You can imagine what went through our minds: If we were not so darn busy! If we had acted sooner! Every client and every dollar earned, especially in this era of financial retraction, is highly valued. We succumbed to the fact that we would lose a cherished client we did not think we were at risk of losing. While we knew what we had, the prospect of losing it made it more precious.

You know the RMIS players and you know how procurement works: If a vendor meets the specifications and your budget, you select that vendor. Our client reviewed all of the bids. The vendors had to provide user access so that our client could interact with their systems. All that flashy technology, true browser interfaces ... what was there not to like about the other RMIS solutions? We just knew we were goners!

Then, a turn in circumstances: The vendor evaluations failed to meet expectations as documented by the client. We thought: You have got to be kidding! All those broker and independent RMIS solutions could not meet our client's requirements? Wow! The client, faced with the loss of RSG as their RMIS solution, realized what they would be missing: "Guess we didn't know what we had with RSG until we looked at the other systems. We simply did not like the other systems. They could not deliver like RSG has."

RSG's valued client was preserved and their business retained. We have been reminded how fortunate we are to continue to service this longtime partner. We both realized what we had when it was almost gone, but no paving of paradise here—this lot is still blooming!

Thank you, all of you, for your business. Let us know what RSG can do for you.

“Do you want to know who you are?
Don't ask. Act!
Action will delineate and define you.”
